Arts & Crafts have been a popular feature of the Sydney Royal Easter Show since 1869. Almost 150 years later, it has grown to become the largest amateur Arts & Crafts exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere. The event attracts over 5,000 entries that reflect the changing tastes and fashions of Australian society and the Arts & Crafts Pavilion is often cited amongst the top 3 reasons for people to visit the Show.
Sarah Leslie, artist and owner of online gallery Signarture, is delighted to be an inaugural exhibitor in the Digital Artwork category that has been introduced for 2015.
"I'd been approached to participate in the 2014 show, but my artworks fell outside the strict guidelines for the traditional classifications of Painting, Printmaking and Photography, both in terms of process and medium", said Leslie. "I'm delighted that the Arts & Crafts Committee has modernised the categories for 2015 so that not only are digitally originated artworks permitted, but a variety of modern media, including Perspex, is accepted as well".
Within the Digital Artwork category there are two classes that recognise artworks that have been originated in digital format: Vector Art refers to artworks that have been created using Adobe Illustrator or other design software, while Raster Art encompasses artworks that have originated from a photograph but which have been digitally transformed through the use of Adobe Photoshop.
According to Elizabeth Hastings, Chair of the Arts & Crafts Committee, “It is vital that the Sydney Royal Arts & Crafts Show keeps pace with technological advances and exhibits 21st century trends in Art, Craft and Design. Currently, there is a groundswell of interest in Digital Art and a wealth of creative talent in the community, so we decided it was time to introduce these new classes at the 2015 Show.”
The 2015 Sydney Royal Arts & Crafts Show will be held during the Sydney Royal Easter Show from Thursday 26 March to Wednesday 8 April 2015.
The Sydney Royal Arts Preview will take place on Tuesday 24th March from 6-9pm at the Sydney Showground, Olympic Park in Exhibition Hall 5 and provides the first opportunity to purchase award-winning artworks across a range of media.
