Updating Interiors with Ultra Violet Artworks

Pantone, the global colour authority, have just announced their 'Colour of the Year' for 2018: Ultra Violet 18-3838. Symbolic of the prevalent global culture, the colour of the year is an expression of the collective mood and attitude.

We are living in times that require inventiveness and imagination and, according to the Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, ultra violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.

The colour is certainly provocative, and dominant. In an interior, it can easily overpower other elements and as such ultra violet requires careful coordination. It is perhaps best used as an accent colour, introduced through decorative elements such as artworks, so as not to overwhelm.

We took inspiration from nature, pairing the an ultra-violet hue with complementary deep oranges and citrus greens when creating new colourways for our popular 'Lhotse' design.

Fittingly, lhotse is a design from our Aura collection, which features organic forms in meditative arrangement. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world, and the use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.

As Pantone state, as a color that can take you in so many directions, Ultra Violet makes a statement in any space, whether it’s one of tradition and elegance or contemporary boldness.

How to Create an Inspiring View from your Outdoor Space

Bespoke Signarture Balmoral Artwork in Outdoor Setting

As the days grow longer and the holidays are in sight, it's time to start visualizing the summer months ahead relaxing or entertaining outdoors...

Pull up a seat in your patio, courtyard, balcony or pool area. If your outdoor space is uncomfortable and less than inspiring, then it's time to take a look at the vast array of contemporary, weather proof furnishings that enable you to live as stylishly and comfortably outdoors as you do indoors.

One thing we all crave is an inspiring view. If you're lucky enough to enjoy an amazing view from your outdoor space, well, sit back and relax - the space won't need any further adornment. But if you live in an urban environment, and you feel hemmed in, then its time to re-evaluate the walls and utilise them best effect.

Our treescape perspex art works can be used to create a view where there is none. The material is half the weight of glass, far less fragile, and the finished artworks have excellent weather resistance. Moreover, they come to life, taking on an extra dimension in an outdoor setting where the angle and intensity of the light is constantly changing, and interacts with the transparency of the medium to create shifting shadow-casting.

Whether you crave views of an intimate vista or a far horizon, of sunrise or sunset from your balcony, patio or pool area, these contemporary treescapes will reconnect you to nature and help create a space you'll love to spend time in this summer.

The Easy Way to an Introduce Greenery

Bringing the outside in is an enduring trend contributing to Pantone's choice of Greenery as the colour of 2017. If you're lucky enough to be surrounded by lush, natural greenery, then employing floor to ceiling glass or expansive windows to connect you to nature may be all you need.

But where the views are more challenging, and that connection to nature is lost, introducing living green walls, botanically-themed wallpaper, artworks or accent pieces is the way to go.

And whilst painting or wallpapering takes plenty of preparation and a fair chunk of time if you're going to do it yourself, hanging an artwork takes less than an hour, has an immediate impact and a transformative effect on your space.

If you didn't get around to it over the Christmas / New year break, then the four day Easter holiday is often seen as the perfect opportunity to inject some new life into your home - the literal meaning of 'renovate'.

Finding that artwork that you love, complements your colour scheme, and is available in the right size for your space now takes a lot less time. You won't need to walk into a hundred gallery spaces searching for the one.

With our bespoke approach, Signarture solves all your usual artwork dilemmas by making it possible for you to order exactly the combination of artwork / colour / shape and size you need.

If you fall in love with any of our designs, you can very easily make it your own by customising it to suit your space.

There are many more than fifty shades of green, but what ever shade of green you like - fir, spruce, moss, jade, teal, apple, emerald - you'll find they are all super easy to specify.

Outdoor Artwork for Patios, Courtyards, Balconies and Pool Areas

With the days growing longer and the holidays in sight, this is the time of year that we start to visualize the summer months ahead relaxing or entertaining outdoors.

And our expectations of 'outdoor living' have changed dramatically over the last decade. No longer will a few aluminium folding chairs and a Weber barbecue suffice! With the advent of synthetic wicker, all-weather fabrics, outdoor lighting and indoor-outdoor carpets, you can now live as stylishly and comfortably outdoors as you do indoors.

To make the most of al fresco living, look at your patio, courtyard, balcony or pool area in the same way you might approach a room. You'll first need to consider:

  • flooring
  • lighting
  • colour
  • scale
  • furniture

But to create an outdoor room you're going to need more. Pattern and texture are key and, as with any indoor space, its the accessories and the artworks that you choose that transform bland and uninviting into something that expresses your personal style.

Metal artworks are a popular choice but if you're looking for something different, you might like to consider our perspex artworks

Perspex is a brand of acrylic glass, a material which is half the weight of actual glass, far less fragile, offers much greater UV resistance and is crystal clear.

To create the artworks we use inks that offer the optimum in UV resistance resulting in a finished product that has excellent weather resistance, and is unaffected by humidity in which other materials would corrode, warp or degrade.

We utilise the transparency of the medium to generate the stunning shadow-casting, and this takes on an extra dimension in an outdoor setting where the angle and intensity of the light is constantly shifting.

If your terrace, patio, courtyard, balcony or pool area is looking less than inviting, have a look through our perspex art collections and create a space you'll love to spend time in this summer.

Announcing the aviary....

We are very excited to announce the aviary...

We've taken Australian native and tropical birds, first depicted on paper nearly two hundred years ago, and reinterpreted them as quintessentially modern, perspex artworks.

signarture toucan fine art bird prints on perspex

A cacophony of cockatoos, a pandemonium of parrots, and a durante of toucans are brought to life in all their fine detail, the transparent medium giving them superior depth of colour and enabling their natural shadow casting.

‘Aviary’ complements the trend for vintage, scientific-style illustrations in contemporary interior design, accompanied by a revival in faux specimen display and the popular use of glass cloches as decorative accents.

“In mid-nineteenth century Victorian society, a private aviary filled with exotic birds was the height of fashion, a luxury afforded by the aristocracy” says Signarture creative director, Sarah Leslie. “For those of more modest means, taxidermy and lithographic prints became the vogue”.

These stunning perspex artworks can be installed in both indoor and outdoor spaces and like previous Signarture collections such as ‘treescape’ have focused on bringing the outside in and connecting us to the natural environment.

“Aviary takes this another step further, bringing the birds out of the trees and placing them in the spotlight” says Sarah.
